According to statistics from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, from January to May this year, Turkey welcomed approximately 15.8 million foreign tourists, a nearly 12.5% increase year-on-year. Including over 2 million Turkish citizens residing abroad returning home, the total number of visitors has approached 17.1 million. These figures reflect a robust recovery and growth in Turkey's tourism sector, highlighting its potential as a significant economic engine.
In 2023, Turkey set a historic record by hosting 49.2 million foreign tourists, generating USD 54.32 billion in tourism revenue, a significant increase from USD 46.48 billion in 2022. The government expects inbound tourists to reach 60 million this year, with projected tourism revenues rising to USD 60 billion, underscoring Turkey's importance in economic recovery and sustainable development.

Antalya and Istanbul remain the most popular destinations in Turkey, maintaining strong allure. In May, Antalya attracted 1.8 million visitors, accounting for 35% of the total tourist arrivals, while Istanbul hosted 1.7 million visitors. These cities are renowned for their rich historical and cultural heritage, as well as beautiful beaches and modern urban life, making them favorites among tourists.
Additionally, regions like Muğla Province and Edirne Province have also become popular choices for foreign tourists, receiving 440,000 and 390,000 visitors, respectively. Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom are Turkey's major tourist source countries, with Germany leading with 1.9 million visitors in the first five months of this year, a 17% increase year-on-year. Istanbul alone attracted 6.9 million foreign tourists, accounting for 43.9% of the national total, highlighting its appeal and influence as a cultural and commercial hub.
